Fabric & Garment Care

LUXURY BLEND GARMENT CARE GUIDE

Your knitwear can be hand-washed, washed on a 30 degrees machine hand wash or dry-cleaned.

  • If washing by hand – gently press the water through fabric – do not rub, wring or stretch the garment.
  • Rinse thoroughly in clean cold/lukewarm water.
  • Squeeze out excess water (or alternatively, use a short spin cycle in a washing machine), taking care not to stretch the garment.
  • If using the machine hand wash cycle at 30 degrees, you may still want to do an extra short spin to squeeze out excess water
  • On a flat surface, smooth the garment back into shape.
  • Dry flat, away from sunlight or direct heat sources.
  • Do NOT tumble dry.
  • Once dry, press lightly on reverse with a cool iron.
  • Alternatively, can be dry- cleaned, though the super soft feeling will not be as noticeable owing to the chemicals within the process.

A NOTE ON PILLING

Pilling is a normal process which occurs on the cashmere fibre and after wearing, small balls or ‘pills’ will appear on the garment. These are caused by some of the fibres tangling together as areas are rubbed during wear. Pilling is not an indication of bad quality, it is an inevitable consequence of the delicate processing of fine knitwear.

DE-PILLING KNITWEAR

Pilling can be easily managed using a razor, electric de-bobbler, or cashmere comb. Once the pilling/bobbles have been removed, and after a few washes, you will notice the amount of pilling will over time reduce.

STORAGE

Never put away knitwear dirty. Sweat, hair, and stains attract moths. Instead, store your knitwear in a drawer or storage box with moth balls, cedar balls or lavender sachets, which are your best protection against moths as they don’t like the smell. Remember to replace these products each season as the smell fades

Cashmere / Lambswool / Luxury Blends

Cashmere
Cashmere is the ultimate in luxury but also makes a durable and practical investment. Cashmere travels well and doesn’t wrinkle. We use only Mongolian cashmere, so you can be confident that not only will any cashmere products you buy from us be super-soft, but they will be warm and, if cared for properly, long-lasting.

Wool
Wool is a breathable fabric which can help regulate temperature, keeping you warm in the winter and cool in the spring. It has antibacterial properties which help to naturally keep you fresh throughout the day. It also has a natural elasticity which stretches with wear then returns to shape, so there is less chance of garments sagging.

Luxury Blends
We often blend small quantities of manmade fibres such as polyester and viscose to mix through our more luxury yarns. There are several reasons we do this; ultimately it makes the garments more practical and easier to wash and wear which is ideal for daywear. It can also help oversized knits to keep their shape and bounce back after washing.

Care for Cashmere Lambswool and Luxury Blends
We advise de-pilling with a cashmere comb and then turning the garment inside out before washing it. We recommend washing on a cold wool hand wash setting – up to 30̊ , with a slow spin, hand washing is great but often the garment becomes so heavy when wet it can stretch out the fibres. We wash ours in the machine. A delicate, non-biological detergent is ideal, and you only need to use a small amount. Smooth the garment back into its original shape and place flat on a towel – dry naturally away from direct heat such as radiators or sunlight. Do not tumble dry.
Caring for your garment this way will dramatically reduce the number of loose fibres that cause pilling and you should find that the garment will then consolidate, soften and improve with every wear. You may find you need to use the de-pilling comb for the first few wears then you should only need to do so again every once in a while. It is best to keep your knitwear folded.

Cashmere Comb
Before you wash cashmere, lambswool or a luxury blend, it helps to remove those small balls of fibre or ‘pills’, using a mini cashmere comb. Pills or bobbles are not a sign of bad quality they are a natural result of the delicate processing that’s used to make these luxury yarns. A cashmere comb reduces and controls pilling keeping your knitwear in top condition you might find you need to comb your cashmere the first few times you wear it, but it should settle down, so you’ll only need to do it every once in a while.

Other Fibres

Cotton
Cotton is a natural and durable fabric that is very easy to care for. All our cotton is the ‘Better Cotton Initiative’ (BCI) the largest cotton sustainability programme in the world.

Alpaca
Alpaca fleece is a silky natural fibre and is considered one of the most luxurious in the world. It is the warmest type of wool and has a beautiful softness, lustre and versatility. It has incredibly lightweight yet strong fibres. While similar to sheep’s wool, it is warmer, not prickly, and bears no lanolin, which makes it hypoallergenic. Alpacas graze in herds on the level heights of Peru, Bolivia and Chile. They are typically sheared in the spring, this does not cause them any harm and is a necessity for their wellbeing.

Viscose/Rayon
Viscose/Rayon is a processed fabric created from natural fibres such as wood pulp, bamboo and plant fibres, which means it is breathable and highly absorbent (more than cotton). It has many similar qualities to silk; it drapes beautifully and feels lovely against the skin. It works perfectly in luxury blends.

Our garments are dyed with unique dyes and pigment. Dark colours may rub off on light coloured fabric and upholstery. Important: Please follow the labelled care instructions to best care for the garments.
